Congressman Comer talks impeachment trials
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Kentucky Congressman James Comer spoke Wednesday about the impeachment trial happening in Washington.
Comer said he’s been very public about his position on impeachment and does not think you can constitutionally impeach someone once they are out of office.
He went on to say he is a supporter of former president Donald Trump, but does think he could’ve responded to the riots at the Capitol better. Comer wishes he would have addressed the nation immediately and that he believes he misled his supporters in thinking that he could overturn the election results.
He went on to say that Trump should not be held responsible for the actions of the rioters.
“I’ve been very public on my position about impeachment. I do not think you can constitutionally impeach someone once they’re out of office. I think this is a political stunt. I don’t think there’s any compelling evidence to link Donald Trump to the rioters who broke through the Capitol that day, and I think the American people are ready to move on and ready for Congress to address the issues they really care about,” said Comer.
