Congressman Andy Barr visits Barren County as he campaigns for opening Senate seat in Kentucky

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – While elections have slowed down across the country and here in the Commonwealth since the 2024 election, political races are heating back up in Kentucky as politicians look toward the seat that will be open when Sen. Mitch McConnell leaves office.

Andy Barr, the current congressman for Kentucky’s sixth district and candidate for U.S. Senate, stopped by Glasgow to meet with Republicans and speak to his goals for Kentucky if he were to be elected. Barr states that no matter the situation, he will take a pro-Kentucky stance to the Senate.

“I’m going to be pro Kentucky. And regardless of who the president is, regardless of who other leaders are in our state, other senators, other members of Congress with Andy Barr, they’re going to get someone who is going to be a, hard charging defender of the signature industries of Kentucky, whether it’s the Corvette manufacturing in Bowling Green or the Ford F-150 in Louisville or the Toyota Camry in Georgetown, the coal industry, the horse industry, the bourbon industry or agriculture, which is, of course, a huge part of western, western Kentucky’s economy. I’m going to be a champion for those key industries,” Barr said.

He also spoke at length concerning the fight against the Chinese Communist Party and the importance of making sure the United States stays on top when it comes to advancements in artificial intelligence. Barr says he believes Kentucky can play a huge role in making sure the U.S. stays in the top spot.

“We have an ocean of coal under our feet. We have natural gas, interstate natural gas pipelines running through the Commonwealth and in the West. We have the potential for nuclear power. We have hydropower potential that’s untapped in Kentucky. So Kentucky is an energy juggernaut. We can put our people back to work in the energy sector, in manufacturing, and at the same time, we can help lead the United States of America in the race for artificial intelligence and the technologies of the future that are very sensitive in the competition with the Chinese Communist Party,” Barr mentioned.

Barr also talked about his relationship with President Donald Trump and support that he has both for and from the President and role in passing legislation, including his work involving the One Big, Beautiful Bill.

Barr will soon head back to Washington, D.C., where he plans to continue his America first agenda that he shares with many Republicans and President Trump. News 40 will continue to bring the latest in the race for the Senate seat as we get closer to Primary Election Day on May 19, 2026.
