Conference USA to Reduce Basketball Tournament to 8 Teams
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Postseason basketball in the Conference USA will look a little different moving forward.
According to Stadium’s Brett McMurphy, the Conference USA will reduce its number of total teams in both the men’s and women’s basketball tournament from 12 to eight.
McMurphy added that the conference will also reduce regular season games or playoff formats in other Olympic sports moving forward.
The college football and basketball insider tweeted out the news on Monday night.
This means that a total of six men’s teams and six women’s teams will fail to make their own conference tournament each year.
The annual tournament, which is held at “The Star” in Frisco, Texas, will begin in the Quarterfinal round and span a length of three days, with the champion punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
