Community resource fair provides assistance to homeless in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Every Wednesday at lunchtime, the Christ Episcopal Church provides meals for Bowling Green’s homeless community.
So today, some Western Kentucky University students arranged a Community Resource Fair for the guests.
WKU’s College of Health and Human Services cohort worked with Barren River District Health Department and several other community resource centers to provide information on local mental health resources, free dental exams, insurance plans, and more.
The fair also provided harm reduction supplies for people who inject drugs with needles and free COVID boosters.
WKU CHHS event organizer Veronica Portillo said, “Even though for the general public it’s easy for us to get online and look up those resources, for someone that doesn’t have a phone or a home, that’s a big barrier to them: knowing where these resources are at and how they can get to them.”
The WKU cohort tells us 50 attendees interacted with the booths this morning.
