Community leaders celebrate groundbreaking for new EMS station in Barren County

GLASGOW, Ky. – Community leaders gathered Tuesday for the groundbreaking of a new Barren-Metcalfe EMS station in the Haywood community.

Officials say the new facility is expected to strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve EMS coverage for residents in both Barren and Metcalfe counties.

Last month, the EMS board approved a bid of more than $579,000 for the project, with Collins Custom Homes selected to build the station.

Leaders say the project is a major investment in public safety and emergency services across the region.

“We noticed response times in the southern part of Barren County were significantly longer than in other areas,” said Joe Middleton, executive director of Barren-Metcalfe EMS. “We worked with the Haywood Volunteer Fire Department and Barren County government to secure this property so we could develop an EMS station here. Our goal is to reduce response times to the lake area and southern Barren County.”

Officials say the new station is expected to be operational by November.

The facility is being built at 31 Matthews Mill Road in Glasgow.
