Community gathers for Hanging with Heroes in Logan County
LOGAN COUNTY, Ky.- The second week of the Tobacco Heritage festival events kicked off on Tuesday with the Hanging with Heroes event.
Members of the community met with first responders who serve Logan County.
The local fire, police, sheriff’s office, and search and rescue departments were in attendance at the Logan County Extension Office.
The event was kid-friendly with lots of candy and goodies for the children; some even got to try on some of the fire department equipment and get behind the wheel of some of the vehicles.
“Virtually all the emergency response in Logan County is provided by volunteers.” Said Carl Seidler, Captain and EMT with Russellville Fire Department. “So their neighbors, their friends, their family, all can potentially be a responder here in Logan County. That’s the core of our response is our volunteers.”
Hanging with Heroes started the second week of the festivities, with events beginning September 27.
There will be events held for the next two weeks until Festival Day on October 11, which will also include a flea market, a Jesse James bank robbery reenactment, and live music.
Over 30,000 people will gather for the Tobacco and Heritage Festival, which started in 1941.
When asked about the event, Logan County Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board of Directors Brad Rogers described it as a “giant homecoming” for the community.
“There’s people that have moved off and they know that the second Saturday in October is always going to be parade day. And you come in and that’s when you see the people that you might not have seen since last year’s parade day or from years past in the festival.” Rogers said.
The events will continue on October 3rd and 4th with the Haunted Trolley Tours and Jesse James 5k Run/Walk. For more information about the upcoming events, visit https://www.tobaccofest.org/
