Community gathers for 6th annual cookout honoring veterans

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Bowling Green community gathered at the Veterans Alliance store Wednesday, Sept. 10 for a cookout to honor veterans.

Many companies and organizations gathered to honor the veterans in the community with food, live music and raffles to show their support.

This was the sixth annual cookout, which usually sees a lot of numbers. Last year saw 750 people come out, and the group is aiming to get more than that this year. This is all to support and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

“Everybody needs to remember that that veteran at one time in their life, they signed the blank check and said, ‘hey, I’ll lay my life down for the states of America.’” said Tom Bridges, president of the Kentucky Veterans Brigade when asked why the event is important to show support to local veterans.
