Community Comes Together to Fight Cancer at Annual Relay For Life
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) — The sun shone bright on Saturday afternoon as survivors, caregivers, and community members gathered at the Bowling Green Ballpark for Warren County’s Relay For Life, a fundraising event dedicated to honoring those affected by cancer and supporting a cancer-free future.
Lisa Cook, a breast cancer survivor of 13 years, described the event as “lovely,” highlighting the power of community in facing the disease. “It makes me feel wonderful to say that people take time out of their busy day to come and support the survivors and those that have gone on,” she said.
The day’s schedule offered something for everyone. Doors opened to the public at 3 p.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 4 p.m. Attendees enjoyed food, local vendors, games, and a special Survivor Bingo held after the Caregiver Lap in the Performance Club.
Later in the evening, a candlelight vigil honored those lost to cancer, with luminary bags lighting the walkway in remembrance. “It’s a beautiful day,” Cook said, holding a ribbon representing the type of cancer she supports. “We have every color for every representation of cancer. You can donate and show your support for any cancer that has touched your life.”
The event emphasized that the fight against cancer extends beyond one day. “Today is not the end. You can give all year long,” Cook added.
Organizers encouraged the community to continue supporting cancer awareness and fundraising efforts through donations online, reminding everyone that the Relay For Life is not just an event—it’s a movement.
