Community celebrates BG East’s trip to Little League World Series
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – They say third time’s the charm, right?
That was the case for Bowling Green East’s 12-year-old All-Stars, who finally got to host their welcome back event at Kereiakes Park on Wednesday night.
The event had to be postponed two times due to weather-related reasons, but Wednesday evening proved to be the perfect setting for a celebration.
Nearly 100 members of the Bowling Green community came out to the local park to honor and celebrate the team’s success this summer, which included a trip to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
The team received a police escort as they arrived to the park in a limousine, the first time many of the kids had ever been in a limo.
Afterwards, there was an on-field ceremony that recognized each player individually for their accomplishments, finished off with each member of the team receiving a certificate from Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson.
Once the ceremony was finished, the players signed autographs and took pictures with family and friends.
The support from the entire community has meant a lot to every kid on the team.
The team will also be honored on opening day in the spring as they hang up a new sign to recognize their trip to Williamsport and a Great Lakes Region Tournament championship.
