Food drive to benefit Glasgow, Barren County schools

GLASGOW, Ky. – Glasgow residents, you can help your school systems provide meals for those who aren’t able to get them during the summer months.

Commonwealth Broadcasting, which owns WCLU in Glasgow, will be hosting a huge event on Friday at the Houchens IGA on the corner of South Green Street and 31E, where you can donate non-perishable food items to go towards the food banks at Glasgow Independent Schools and Barren County Schools.

This is part of an initiative called Two Lights for Tomorrow, named in honor of the two lanterns Paul Revere set out before his midnight ride.

Since the 250th birthday of our country is approaching next year, staff thought this would be a perfect kickoff to the celebration.

“Even though Glasgow and Barren County are two separate school systems, we are one community here in Glasgow and Barren County, and we help each other out. There’s a sense of community here in Glasgow and Barren County. We thought it was a great way to connect those two entities and help all people this summer,” Chris Houchens, general manager of Commonwealth Broadcasting, says.

You can donate before then at either the Houchens IGA or the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center in Glasgow.

Houchens asks that the items you provide be something a child can easily cook themselves without a parent’s assistance.
