College Street Pedestrian Bridge getting needed improvements
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The College Street Pedestrian Bridge over the Barren River is undergoing some renovations.
Right now, the boat ramp beneath the bridge is closed. It will remain closed for several weeks.
Recently, the city received a $1.6 million grant from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to repair the historic bridge.
It was built during the Civil War and must be kept up to the standards of its Historic Landmark status.
“The other phases will include blasting off the lead paint that is currently on the bridge and then repainting the bridge. The bridge will be painted as close to the same color as we can get it, and that is to be in line with the historic guidelines,” Deborah West, the Public Information Officer with the City of Bowling Green says.
The bridge is currently still open, but will need to be closed periodically during repair and painting.
