Clean up efforts underway following oil spill at Minit Mart
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Clean up efforts are currently taking place after a large oil spill at a Minit Mart in Bowling Green.
Officials with the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet confirm 650 gallons of gasoline leaked out from an oil storage tank at the Minit Mart on Russellville Road.
Robin Hartman with the Cabinet told WNKY the leak was possibly caused by vandalism or some sort of theft attempt. Hartman said it apparently took place some time Wednesday morning, and that they found dual markings from some sort of drill in the tank.
Clean up efforts are being handled by Ensafe and Appalachian Environmental Services, both crews were on site Tuesday morning.
Crews have been working to remove contaminated soil and replace it with new soil.
Hartman said it should take one to two more days to finish excavating the soil. She also said that officials are monitoring the situation, but have found no evidence of the oil spill affecting the nearby spring or Jennings Creek.
Both the store manager and district manager at the Minit Mart store said they were unable to comment.
