City officials discuss phase two of streetscape project
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-In a recent city commission meeting, one topic that was discussed was a streetscape enlargement to the downtown area of Bowling Green.
This project involves two blocks of main street on either side of Fountain Square Park, and State and College street from Fountain Square to 6th street.
An overview of the plan was presented at the meeting. One of the goals is to add trees to provide shaded areas for pedestrians, and to add to visual appeal. Where utility lines would be, the intention is to provide smaller ornamental trees that would not grow large enough to touch powerlines.
Bike lanes were also discussed. According to Greg Merideth with Bowling Green public works, these processes were delayed due to COVID-19.
According to Meredith, there’s currently no set timeline for the completion of these projects. Nine months to a year is the anticipated timeline for construction.
