City of Scottsville celebrates new elevated crosswalk on square
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – The City of Scottsville is celebrating a new addition to its downtown square in the form of a new elevated crosswalk.
It sits right by the Allen County Public Library as you come into the square from Gallatin Road.
The project has been in the works for about five years, and the main goal is pedestrian safety.
There used to be trees decorating the square, but they made it harder for drivers to see people crossing, so the city removed them and made safety the top priority as they moved forward with this project.
“We want to make sure as our community is growing, which is exciting, we’re getting more and more pedestrian traffic… and so we just need to adjust a little bit. We want to make sure that we have put a lot of investment into making this a walkable community, and so we need to make sure that it’s also super safe,” Heart of Scottsville executive director Hannah Brooks says.
One of the unique parts of this celebration was a sneak peek at the newest Corvette model, which actually got to test out the new crosswalk and show drivers how to approach and cross it.
Brooks says they plan to apply for more grant money to make more crosswalks like these in the future, as well as adding smaller trees that will allow for visibility.
