City of Bowling Green unveils new Riverfront Park master plan

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A master plan for a park project seven years in the making was unveiled Wednesday for downtown Bowling Green.

According to a release by Bowling Green’s Downtown Development Division, the plan was revealed during Wednesday’s Board of Commissioners retreat at Sloan Convention Center.  The park is expected to have over 20 outdoor adventure and festival features across 70 acres along the Barren River, the release states.

The City of Bowling Green’s Neighborhood & Community Services director, Brent Childers, says the new Riverfront Park will “be unlike any other parks in Bowling Green and Warren County.”

“This park’s outdoor adventure and festival themed elements will make it a regional destination, and aren’t like any other experiences in this area. The park’s amenities will be a catalyst for even more economic development, talent attraction, and workforce retention,” Childers said.

Last year, public input sessions were offered with in-person polls at downtown events for both adults and children, online surveys and public open houses and stakeholder forums.

Now, the park is another step closer to becoming a reality.

The release further states Riverfront Park will lead to new growth and opportunities downtown, including the historic Shake Rag district and for local businesses.
