City of Bowling Green responds to dog allegedly exposed to drugs in city park

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The story of a sick dog prompted a quick response from Bowling Green Police Department, but it appears everything is in the clear.

Over the weekend, a family trip to Roland Bland Park ended in a trip to the vet after a woman’s dog started to display some troubling symptoms. According to a Facebook post, the woman said her dog was experiencing “swaying, inability to walk, jerking, leaking urine, lethargy and bulging eyes.”

News 40 spoke to Deborah Highland West, the public information officer for the City of Bowling Green, who said the park is clean. It was reported to the station that there was no police report filed, but police responded to the park after coming across the Facebook post. BGPD swept the property and found no evidence of illicit substances, the city says.

The city said the the parks are the crown jewel of the community and urge everyone to contact authorities if they ever come across a strange situation.

The full statement of the city is below:

“Our parks are the crown jewels of our community, and safety is our number one priority for our residents and visitors. All parks are cleaned daily to serve the thousands of people who visit them annually. Additionally, when officers with the Bowling Green Police Department first read about this incident in a social media post, officers immediately went to the park, walked the area and looked for any dangerous substances. None were found. We strongly urge the public to call the city police anytime anyone sees something that they believe to be drug paraphernalia or if anyone sees another person engaged in illegal activity in our parks so that our police can address the matter promptly and also properly dispose of any potential dangerous substances.”
