City of Bowling Green provides flood update
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Although the rain is gone, the floodwater still remains, and the City of Bowling Green wants everyone to be aware of safety hazards that come with flooding and resources that are available.
Most people may be wondering when FEMA will step in, but the city is currently preparing a federal declaration to submit to Gov. Andy Beshear.
There are many dangers that come with flooding, from sewage and debris flowing in the flood waters to sinkholes forming in private and public property. The amount of sinkholes is rising, but just because some water dries up, does not mean you shouldn’t remain cautious.
Debi West, the public information officer for the City of Bowling Green, tells us, “Don’t let the sun shining fool you. There are areas that the water will continue to rise before it finally does recede. One of those areas is the Cave Mill Road area, but we have several other pockets like that because of our karst topography.”
For those who need to be evacuated, the Kentucky National Guard was brought in and is prepared to evacuate anyone in need. If you are in an emergency situation, contact the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 270-842-1633 or 911.
