City of Bowling Green, Housing Authority honor long-time executive director with new street name
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green roadway has a new name to honor a pillar of the community.
A street unveiling ceremony to officially rename White Court to Abraham Avenue was held Thursday morning at the Housing Authority of Bowling Green.
Elected officials, family and friends, staff and the community shared memories of Williams before the reveal of the new Abraham Avenue sign.
Williams retired in July 2024 after serving 29 years as executive director. He suddenly passed away in October 2024.
His legacy will continue to impact the lives of countless people in the south-central Kentucky community.
Current Housing Authority executive director Katie Miller says the staff gathered to find ways to honor Williams.
“After he passed, we had a moment. We just kinda gathered ourselves, and we wanted to honor him. The staff threw out some ideas, and the idea came up to rename the street that runs between our offices in honor of him,” Miller said.
Miller says Williams’ impact will continue to be felt for generations throughout the nation through his efforts.
A new subdivision being built next to the Housing Authority will also bear Williams’ name.
“The subdivision that’s next to our learning center here is going to be named Williams Estates in honor of Mr. Williams. That was just another small way to honor him. Homeownership was a big thing for him. And this has the ability to put up to 40 families in homes,” said Miller.
