City celebrates opening of newly renovated Reservoir Hill playground

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The newly renovated Reservoir Hill playground officially opened on Monday with a Block Party hosted by Bowling Green Parks and Recreation.
Parks and Rec, Bowling Green Police Department, and other local officials came together to enjoy some good food, free ice cream, and to see what the new and improved playground has to offer.
The new playground is considerably bigger than what was there previously, as the old one was about a third of the size of what is there now, with a lot more new play sets to enjoy.
Parks and Rec also honored the history of Reservoir Hill by adding the wooden split rail fences to keep the historical accuracy, as Fort Smith once stood where the park is now.
The block party was a culmination of all the time that went into getting the playground up and running. Now, finally, after a year due to weather delays, the park is now open to the public.
“Anything like this takes a little time to get it right,” said Brent Belcher, Director of Bowling Green Parks and Recreation.
When talking about the playground finally being complete, he stated, “We feel like we had to take a little time to get it right and we’re glad we did. And it’s, you know, it’s an awesome day for us. We knew we had a great playground coming and we just wanted to make sure that everything leading up to it was taken care of.”
With Reservoir Hill being complete, the focus will shift toward renovating Covington Woods Park this fall followed by completely redoing the Lovers Lane playground in the Spring of 2026.
