Citation: Toddler and indoor marijuana grow found inside home where shooting occurred

FRANKLIN, Ky. – Paula Cashman told Franklin police she intended to shoot Catherine Root Friday because Root was in an argument with her sister Linda Overstreet, according to Cashman’s arrest citation.

Instead, Cashman fired three rounds from a five-shot, single-action revolver striking Root, 29, and accidentally striking her sister, according to the citation. A three-year-old toddler was inside the home at the time of the shootings.

Cashman, 66, traveled from her Nashville home Friday afternoon to her older sister’s home at 809 Spears Ave. in Franklin after Overstreet called and told her she was arguing with Root. When Cashman arrived, an argument began and she is now accused of shooting both women with a gun that had been reported stolen, according to her citation.

When police arrived, Cashman was standing in the driveway and said she shot both women. She handed the gun to a Franklin police officer, according to her citation.

When officers entered the home, Overstreet was on the floor with a wound to her stomach. Root had also sustained gunshot wounds. Police obtained a search warrant for the home and said they found an indoor marijuana growing operation, according to the citation.

Cashman is charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, three counts of first-degree assault and one count of receiving stolen property (firearm).

Both of the wounded women were taken by ambulance to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Police have not released their conditions.

Simpson Circuit Court Clerk records do not show a pending court date yet. Cashman is lodged in the Simpson County Detention Center.
