Circuit court clerk roundup: Sonya Corder and Bonnie Williams
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Earlier in the week, we brought you an interview with two candidates running for the circuit court clerk position in Warren County.
Today Sonya Corder (D) and Bonnie Williams (R) spoke about their candidacy.
Corder is a multi-year veteran of the circuit court clerk’s office, having held multiple positions within the office. Corder, like some of the other candidates, wants to work on the staff turnover in the office.
“I strongly feel like retention is a part a big part of the problem at the Justice Center as well. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go when I was working at the Justice office. And since I’ve left, there’s been a lot of lot of clerks with a lot of experience that have left,” Corder said.
Both candidates indicated that they would like to improve the levels of communication between the various departments in the Justice Center and the Circuit Court.
Bonnie Williams, the Grand Jury coordinator for the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, also has years of experience not only working with the other departments in the Justice Center but also with the Circuit Court. She is also knowledgeable about many of the systems used in the office.
Williams believes that interdepartmental communication will streamline the office and thinks that building relationships between each department will make local court management run more smoothly.
“I believe that there is definitely a need for improvement in the relationships here in this whole building. You know, we’ve got multiple agencies, multiple offices in this building and of course the courtrooms. I think that one thing is the accessibility to the public, the office, you know, the hours of the clerk’s office that, you know, when people are leaving court and they need to stop in and do business with the clerk’s office, I think it’s important that, you know, we’re still there smiling, ready to greet the public,” Williams said.
