Christmas tree care
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At Morgan’s Fresh Cut Christmas Trees next to Lost River Cave, people can get the classic fresh Christmas tree that some families swear by each season. However, some are often discouraged by the perceived maintenance of caring for a living tree during the holidays.
Truly, there is not a hug deal of maintenance required, says manager Austin Flynn. There are mainly a few things upon setup that one needs to look out for.
“When you set your tree up, make sure you keep it away from a ceiling fan, and try to keep it away from vents. We don’t want the heat going up into the Christmas tree. You don’t. We don’t want any fire hazards,” Flynn said.
The best way to keep the tree healthy and holding onto its needles is to water with warm water and to put in a bit of tree preserver each time. This will keep the tree healthier longer.
When you are done with the tree, there are many options for disposal, one of which is donation. In many places, the Army Corps of Engineers or Wildlife Management will take the trees and place them at the bottoms of lakes, creating habitats for fish.
A real tree can be a great experience and is usually much better for the environment long term than artificial trees – there are just a few steps required to keep the tree healthy and hazard free.
