Christmas in July for tornado victims

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Christmas in July…yes that’s right! Governor Andy Beshear and the First Lady Britainy Beshear are giving back to tornado victims.

Earlier today, families impacted by the December 11th tornadoes were invited to the Barren River Area Development District.

The event included food, gifts and a visit from Santa Claus!

The toys came from Britainy Beshear’s Christmas toy drive and four local toy giveaways. Governor Beshear also presented a check for $1.8 million dollars for broadband expansion.

“In the immediate aftermath, it’s very easy to have the survivor’s of this horrible tornado in the front of your mind. But as life continues you’re not thinking about it as often so I think it’s important for us to remember that these families and communities are still hurting,” said First Lady Britainy Beshear.

“Remembering when she looked at me and she said they didn’t just lose their Christmas toys, they lost all their toys and just seeing the outpouring of love, probably the most successful toy drive we have ever seen, more toys than we could ever give out for Christmas. So this is all the extra toys in the warehouse that we now get to give all these kids another good day,” said Governor Andy Beshear.

Next week, Christmas in July is coming to other impacted areas, including Mayfield and Dawson Springs.
