Local children return to school
SMITHS GROVE, Ky.-For some local schools, the long-awaited day is finally here. Today was the first day of school. For students at South Edmonson Elementary School, the start of a new year is exciting.
“It’s kind of exciting because I came to this school last year when I was in second grade. I’m having lots of experiences still. This place is actually kind of awesome,” South Edmonson Elementary third-grade student Camden Williams said.
To kick off the new school year, the students attended an assembly to discuss school expectations. The kids also participated in various activities relating to their careers and life goals. This was done to introduce them to their new teachers and staff, who of course are just as excited to see them again.
“I just miss hearing all the little stories they have and they have all these exciting things to tell you about what’s going on in their lives. I really missed the hugs,” South Edmonson Elementary music and art teacher Jessica Doyle said.
The end of summer doesn’t mean the end of the fun. Being back in school gives the students an opportunity to catch up on all that’s been happening over the summer. South Edmonson Elementary guidance counselor Shannon Lowe said a new year is something both the students and staff have looked forward to.
“It has been a pleasure. The kids come in, they’re excited. we love them and they love us. It’s just so good to be back,” Lowe said.
