Child Passenger Safety Week highlights importance of proper car seat use

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s Child Passenger Safety Week, and Safe Seats Safe Kids is working hard to educate parents on the importance of proper car seat use—completely free of charge.

The organization is providing hands-on learning experiences for families to ensure children are safe and secure while riding in vehicles.

Rayvionna Sivils, a mom of two, attended one of the sessions and said, “It was actually very quick and very fun. I learned a lot of things that I didn’t know.”

Parents not only learn how to correctly install car seats, but also gain insights into how the seats work to protect children during crashes.

Christina Vickery, with client services, shared a personal story to emphasize the importance of these checks.

“You never know when an accident is going to happen,” she said. “When my daughter was three months old, her seat was checked, reinstalled incorrectly, and three days later, we were in a head-on collision.”

In Warren County alone, officials report a 76% car seat misuse rate. Safe Seats Safe Kids is working to reduce that number by offering free safety checks in Warren County, Butler County and beyond.

Parents are encouraged to schedule a visit and take advantage of these life-saving resources.
