Child brings B.B. gun to Dishman McGinnis Elementary; peers report incident

BGISD superintendent commends kids for reporting incident

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green City School parents are learning that a gun was brought into their child’s elementary school Friday.

School officials at Dishman McGinnis Elementary School have confirmed that all students are safe after two students reported that another student showed them a B.B. gun in the boys’ bathroom.

The gun was never fired, and school officials have confirmed that it was not loaded.

After the incident was reported, administrators and the school resource officer conducted an investigation. District officials have confirmed that they are moving forward with a formal disciplinary process.

Bowling Green Independent School District superintendent Gary Fields said, “I think the most important thing is I want to pat the kids on the back who came forward. I think that’s what we try to teach our kids in all of our schools, that if you see something, say something.”

BGISD notified parents of the incident.
