Chick-fil-A ditching ‘no antibiotics ever’ promise

(CNN) – Chick-fil-A is doing away with its “no antibiotics ever” promise.

The fast food giant will now use a looser industry standard: “no antibiotics important to human medicine.”

That’s the standard recognized by the USDA and the World Health Organization.

Chick-fil-A first pledged never to serve chicken that was fed antibiotics in 2014.

The company cited diminishing chicken supply as the reason for abandoning that policy.

Tyson, America’s largest poultry company, ended its eight-year no-antibiotics plendge last summer.

Perdue chicken still says it does not use antibiotics.

Antibiotic use in food production has come under intense scrutiny in recent years.

Certain bacterial infections in humans have become increasingly treatment-resistant because of more frequent exposure to the drugs.
