Chewy pet supplies giveaway at Code Compliance and Animal Protection

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Code Compliance and Animal Protection in Bowling Green received a truck load of pet supplies from Chewy.com, the online pet supplies retailer. The city gave away all of their supplies to people who entered their names into their database.

Many people have been struggling to afford pet supplies, many of which went up in price due to inflation. This has made it difficult for many people to afford their pets and has been a driver in the crisis levels of many humane societies in the US.

Brad Schargorodski, the Division Manager of Code Compliance and Animal Protection, was glad he could help people take care of their pets.

“The city understands that there are a lot of pet owners and, you know, individuals here in the city that have those struggles financially. And so we hope to offset a lot of that and provide these free pet supplies, work with our community partners,” Schargorodski said.

For others in the Code Compliance office, like Pam Boose the administration specialist, it was great way to engage with community members.

“It’s my bread and butter. I love talking to the people and and interacting with the public and anything that we can do to try and help them out or help them resolve a problem, you know, that’s really what we’re here for. I mean, I know a lot of people think that code compliance is all about issuing citations and fines and things like that. But we from our standpoint, it’s more of education work,” Boose said.

The office received over 1,000 entries for the items they received this year and were happy to fill the orders.
