Chase ends in arrest

MORGANTOWN, Ky. – The Morgantown police attempted to stop a motorcycle in town that officers said was driving recklessly traveling at high rates of speed and running stop signs on Porter Street Thursday night, according to a release from Morgantown Police Chief Giles Taylor.
The motorcycle rider is then accused attempting to flee or evade the officer by going out Woodbury Loop. The motor vehicle pursuit ended on Mooretown Road followed by a short foot pursuit with the driver fleeing Officer Evans on foot, according to the release.
When officers captured the driver then began to resist arrest and was tased before eventually being brought under control and handcuffed.
Officers determined the driver was Shirley Stewart Jr., 38, of Morgantown, was found to be operating a motorcycle with no motorcycle permit/license, no registration plates, no registration receipt and no insurance and two active warrants, according to the release.
Once cleared by EMS Stewart was charged with disregarding a stop sign, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), resisting arrest, failure to produce insurance card, no registration plates, no registration receipt and no motorcycle operator’s license.
Stewart was lodged in the Butler County Jail.
