Chase ends after man overturns truck in creek, infant taken to hospital

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – An infant was taken by ambulance to a local hospital as a precautionary measure after police said a man ran from them during an attempted drug arrest.

Police have not yet released the name of the man.

The vehicle chase ended after the man lost control of his pick up truck and the truck rolled over into Jennings Creek near the intersection of River Tanmer Way and Torridge Avenue, Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force director Tommy Loving said. Unknown to police at the time of the pursuit was initiated, an infant was inside of the truck.

“Many people now say marijuana is a non-violent drug but look at the crime and chaos it caused today and the endangerment to a child by its father,” Loving said.

Both the driver and the infant were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The infant was released to the custody of a family member, Loving said.

Inside the man’s truck, task force detectives found a U.S. Postal Service delivered a pink parcel with 396 THC vaping cartridges, Loving said. THC is the psychoactive component that gives cannabis users a high when ingested or smoked. Detectives also found 14 pounds of marijuana, he said.

The marijuana and vaping cartridges have a street value of $100,000, Loving said.

Loving anticipates the driver will be charged with felony drug trafficking and other charges related to the pursuit.

“There will be multiple charges to come out of this investigation besides the drug charges due to the pursuit and the totality of this situation,” he said. “We’re so thankful the child is OK because this really could have been a tragic situation.”
