Caverna Independent Schools prepare students for school year with Readifest event

CAVE CITY, Ky. – As school districts are welcoming students back on different days, the Caverna Independent Schools are getting students ready for their return later in August.

The Caverna Independent Schools drive thru Readifest event was held at Caverna Elementary School Thursday morning. This is where district-wide students of all grade levels could pick up backpacks full of supplies for the new school year.

Along with supplies, students could also pick up gifts from vendors in attendance. School staff weren’t alone. They were joined by first responders like the Horse Cave and Cave City Fire Departments and the Cave City Police Department.

This event is sponsored by the Family Resource and Youth Service Centers, and staff like Caverna Independent School District FRYSC coordinator Wilma Bunnell say it’s a pleasure to be back.

“We have a lot of community volunteers. Horse Cave Baptist Church is always wonderful to help us with supplies each and every year, and all the Readifest backpacks, we could not do this, it’s all donations. We could not do this without all of our donations that are taken up,” Bunnell said.

The first day for Caverna Independent students will be Aug. 24.
