Caverna Independent School District welcomes 1st female superintendent
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-This afternoon, Caverna Independent School District said farewell to a familiar face and hello to a new leader!
The district held a reception to welcome their first female incoming superintendent, Amanda Abell. She’s been a member of the administrative team for the past seven years.
Outgoing superintendent Cornelius Faulker has been with the school district for 26 years…starting as a teacher, then principal while also being a coach, and then to superintendent. He was only the third African American superintendent in Kentucky history.
And the district is making history with Abell again.
“Caverna’s done a really good job of being innovative and moving forward I mean it’s one of the first schools to integrate back in the 60s, one of the first schools in the state of Kentucky to integrate, so a long tradition of being first,” said Faulker.
“Above anything I hope to be a role model for all girls and even teachers in the profession who might be looking for a leadership position but might just be a bit uncertain.”
Dozens of people attended the ceremony to say their well wishes to Faulkner and their good luck’s to Abell.
