Cave City officers give out cash for the holidays

CAVE CITY, Ky. – Cave City Police Officers helped spread holiday cheer over the weekend.

“Oh my God,” said one surprised driver in Cave City.

This driver was left speechless after Cave City Police Officers pulled her over, but instead of giving her a ticket, she received $50 in a Christmas Card.

“It’s good to get out in the community and actually give back. It’s good for us to get out and show people we are not just out here to take people to jail. Just because you are getting stopped doesn’t always mean it’s a bad thing. It feels great to give back and we were really excited to be a part of it,” Cave City Police Officer Dave Houchens said.

Cave City officers gave $1,500 in a variety of traffic stops and home visits, thanks to an anonymous donor.

“We were blessed this year, and we wanted to give back to the community to help people especially during Christmas time,” the anonymous donor said.

Police Officers also gave out $100 to five families in need.

Jennifer Hewett said this is one prayer that has been answered.

“We have just had such a hard time. We bought this place here, because the home we were renting sold and we bought this with basically everything that we had and now it’s sold. I have not been able to buy anything so far, so this is a blessing,” said a tearful Hewett.

Each family was surprised to learn why these police officers were knocking on their doors.

“It’s wonderful. Especially this time of year with everything that is going wrong and my brother passed away this week. It makes it wonderful that there is someone out there that still cares,” said Julie Thuotte.

Whether it was a knock on the door or a traffic stop, Christmas got a lot brighter for residents in Cave City.

The anonymous donor says giving is extremely important to her and her family.

“I hope that it helps ease Christmas. I know a lot of times money is very tight. We heard a couple of different situations where the people really, really needed it and they were very thankful,” she said.
