Cave City business hosts preview of ‘Floyd Collins the Musical’

CAVE CITY, Ky. – Cave City got a preview of the Southern Kentucky Performing Art Center’s production of “Floyd Collins The Musical.”

The cast performed one of the songs at Ace Coffee on Saturday morning for spectators.

Leticia Cline, owner of the business, has a special interest in the production. Floyd Collins was her great great grand uncle.

Cline says, “It’s pretty amazing to be able to watch and it’s just special to see my family history unfold. You know, I’ve always heard it, but to watch it be honored makes me feel really proud.”

Cline also mentioned how this ties to the local area.

“To be driving down the road and be like, ‘wow, this is where this musical happened.’ And, you know, doing something like ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ you know, you don’t get that, you know, that didn’t happen specifically anywhere. So doing something like Floyd Collins and being immersed in the place, it was and remembering that this wasn’t that long ago.”

Floyd Collins the Musical will have one performance only at SKyPAC on Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m., and the production marks the 100th anniversary of the cave explorer being trapped in Sand Cave, which is inside Mammoth Cave National Park.

This tragic event brought worldwide attention to south-central Kentucky and its cave systems.
