Caught on cam: wild chase ends in crash

(WESH) Deputies were almost run over and a trooper was nearly shot during a police pursuit Sunday, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.

The pursuit spanned Citrus and Sumter counties.

Dashcam video released Monday shows much of the pursuit, including a Pursuit Intervention Technique, or PIT maneuver, which ended the chase.

Deputies first went after the suspect because they say the pickup he was driving was stolen.

Investigators say he tried to run over two deputies on Highway 41.

Once troopers joined the pursuit, they say he took out a gun and fired off three shots toward them. One of the bullets hit a trooper’s windshield.

Suspect Travis Lovett, 22, was hospitalized after the crash.
