Catfish Festival holds special day for people with disabilities

MORGANTOWN Ky.- While the experience of the fair can be fun, it’s sometimes not a great experience for those with special needs. In response, the Green River Catfish Festival held a special event Wednesday.

An event called special friends day gave those with special needs a chance to enjoy the rides of the Green River Catfish Festival a day before it opens to the public. Some attending organizations included the Buddy House and Morgantown Care and Rehab.

The program director of positive direction support services, Carrie West, said she’s happy to have attended the event to raise awareness for those with special needs.

“There’s a lot of individuals with all kinds of diagnoses other than just Down syndrome. It’s really great. It’s an honor to be here and be a part of it,” West said.
