‘Cars to Work’ program to get car insurance for those who are employed

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Here’s a service for anyone who is employed and looking for affordable car payments. It’s coming from Goodwill industries.

The ‘Cars to Work’ program seeks to address transportation barriers for people who are employed, and to also work on credit building. This program helps those with low-income individuals apply for affordable car insurance even if they have a low credit score.

As far as requirements, you will need a valid Kentucky driver’s license, social security card, be employed for 90 days, and work at least 30 hours a week.

Program manager Katie Ramser says this is a gamechanger, and she encourages those who meet the requirements to take advantage of the service.

“What we do for the program is we actually set up secured auto loans for people who are approved, and goodwill backs those loans with our funds that we get through the store and through our auto auction. That lets us approve people who may not be able to be approved traditionally, so our big focus is Kentuckians who are employed who have no and low credit scores,” Ramser said.

For those who receive social security, less hours will meet the requirement. Applicants also must have stable housing for 90 days, and $500 in the savings account for the down payment. Goodwill will match it for another $500.
