Campbellsville man sentenced to federal prison in crop insurance fraud case

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Campbellsville man has been sentenced in a crop insurance fraud case.

U.S. Attorney Kyle G. Bumgarner of the Western District of Kentucky and Special Agent in Charge Miles Davis of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the Inspector General, announced that Robert “Robbie” Thomas Hunt, 61, of Campbellsville, was sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in prison, followed by 2 years of supervised release in federal jail.

Hunt is ordered to pay restitution of $1,686,002 and was fined $250,000.

According to a release, Hunt pleaded guilty to crop insurance fraud on March 27, 2025.

Hunt sold crops under the names of other people and underreported true production on claim forms. This resulted in over $1.6 million in fraudulent insurance overpayments. This activity happened between 2014 and 2021.

Hunt will receive no parole in the federal system.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of the Inspector General, and Risk Management Agency, Special Investigations Staff.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Weiser prosecuted the case.
