Caboni comments after WKU Board of Regents approves fiscal year 2025 budget
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Western Kentucky University Board of Regents approved the fiscal year 2025 budget the morning of Friday, May 7.
The budget was passed eight to three.
Despite WKU enrollment and revenue being up, the cost of doing business requires some cost saving measures.
WKU president Dr. Timothy Caboni said, “It is 1% larger than the budget last year, and we’re asking our deans to be conservative to ensure that we’re able to meet the goals of the institution by not overspending. And so, one of the ways you do that is by essentially asking, instead of spending 100% of a budget, you spend 92% of your budget.”
The over $349 million budget includes a proposed 2% increase to tuition, along with a 2% salary increase pool for some faculty and staff.
According to a release by the university, the budget is nearly $4.3 million larger than the 2023-24 budget.e.
The WKU Board of Regents will next meet Aug. 8 and Aug. 9 for its annual retreat and third quarterly meeting.
News 40 will continue to bring the latest developments as they become available.
