Butler County Animal Shelter needs public’s help to fundraise for a new building
MORGANTOWN, Ky. – The Butler County Animal Shelter is looking to move locations and build a larger facility and need the public’s help raising the funds to do it.
The Butler County Animal Shelter is currently in a small building and, according to the shelter director, Ruby Fooks, they need more space.
Currently, a contractor is drawing up blue prints for their shelter, and Fooks and her staff are working to raise money in any way that they can, including hosting a yard sale next door with inventory from clothing to decorations.
The new building won’t be cheap and Fooks is doing everything she can to raise a large amount of money as quickly as possible.
“We have fundraisers going on constantly. We have dog washes we always need volunteers for, food trucks, anybody that wants to jump in and help with a fundraiser, we’re always in need of volunteers for that. We just started to do our yard sales twice a month so if anybody is able to help with that, organizing, working in the yard sale, anything along those lines right now. But we’re just currently working on fundraising,” said Fooks.
This new building will have a cat patio, called a catio, as well as a shower for workers in order to prevent spread of diseases, more space to house animals, a spay/neuter clinic and a walking trail for the community to use.
“The walking trail is important because we could get not only the community out for exercise but they would be urged to get a shelter dog out and take them for a walk. So that’s why that’s something that I really wanted to integrate into the new shelter because I think it’s important to get your community involved and also get that your dogs out of kennels and give him break out of kennels for a little bit,” said Fooks.
She is hoping the county and city will be willing to pitch in to make the expansion possible, all for the safety and comfort of the animals.
“I hope that the county will realize that it’s a very important thing in this community and hopefully they can step up and help us,” said Fooks.
