Bus staff hiring event draws success and much-needed applicants

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Recently, Warren County Public Schools held an event aimed at attracting people to drive buses or be bus monitors for the school district. Like many districts across the Commonwealth, WCPS is also experiencing a shortage in bus drivers.
Training and safety manager Michelle Dennis says the event was a smashing success and accomplished the goal of attracting people to the positions. Most of the participants’ favorite part was being able to test drive one of the school buses in the lot without needing a CDL.
“It was fantastic. We had a bigger turnout than we ever expected. So it’s something that we would do again and possibly this spring, early spring. We’ve gotten several applications for both drivers and monitors. It it was a great turnout.”
The county school system is now considering doing the events more often, most likely in the spring . For more information about being a bus driver for WCPS, visit www.applitrack.com/warren/onlineapp.
