Buddy House creates coffee mugs with love thanks to local businesses; available soon!
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Our buddies at Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky are used to their fair share of art projects, but getting to throw on their smocks and design their own coffee mugs was something a little extra special.
This fun fundraiser was made all started with a phone call from one new local coffee shop owner.
“We were looking for something to help the community that we want to be involved in,” said The Good Stuff Coffee & More owner Rob Morrison. “We have some friends that are part of the Buddy House, and it’s very great. I mean, the smile on their faces- they’re showing off their mugs. They’re very proud of the mugs that they were painting. I was very happy to be a part of that.”
Buddy House member Tre Williams said, “We had a lot of fun, super fun! We like to paint the art at the Down Syndrome Of Kentucky Buddy House.”
The Good Stuff Coffee & More reached out to another Bowling Green business, The Paint’n Place, who said they’d love nothing more than to glaze and fire up these hand-painted mugs.
“One of the reasons we bought this business is because we want to be a part of the community,” said The Paint’n Place owner Amanda Talley. “So, that was a no-brainer! It’s really sweet because they all have their names on the bottom and they’re really proud of what they did. And they should be!”
Tre’s fellow DSSKY friend Lucy Camp told News 40, “I painted stripes with different colors like purple, blue, and pink, and then some polka dots. I got a lot of stuff at my house that has polka dots and stripes, too.”
After Amanda and her crew get these one-of-a-kind creations out of the kiln, you’ll be able to buy them at Rob’s coffee shop. Mugs go for $20 each and 100 percent of the profits go back to the Buddy House.
“They probably got about 30 mugs done today,” said Rob. “And hopefully, once we sell those out, we can do this process again and continue this to help the Buddy House raise money and do some good stuff for the community.
