Brownsville man arrested and charged with assault, fleeing police
SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – A Brownsville man suspected in an assault was arrested Tuesday.
On Tuesday, May 3 around 6 p.m., Edmonson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2700 block of Chalybeate Road for a man with a lacerated arm.
While on their way to respond, deputies discovered a white Honda that was speeding with its emergency flashers on. One deputy initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle as another drove to the caller’s location.
Police said the traffic stop on the white Honda revealed that the suspect, Garry L. Foley, 25, of Brownsville had been in that vehicle but fled into the woods at the intersection of Ky Hwy 259/101. Police said deputies found Foley in the woods, but he did not comply with their commands to stop and kept fleeing.
A trained tracking dog assisted in the search due to Foley having the laceration on his arm, and he was presumed to be bleeding heavily. After around two hours of searching, Foley was located in the woods. Officials said a tourniquet was applied to his arm, and he was removed from the woods and transported by EMS to The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
Police said an interview with the victim revealed Foley was a previous resident of the home but had recently moved out. The victim said they returned home to find Foley had forced his way inside the residence, according to police. Officials said an altercation took place, and Foley allegedly assaulted the victim and punched a window, causing the laceration to his arm.
After being cleared from the hospital, Foley was arrested and charged with assault, fourth degree (domestic violence/minor injury, fleeing or evading police, first degree (on foot), burglary, third degree, criminal mischief, third degree and alcohol intoxication in a public place (first and second offense).
Foley was served an emergency protective order and was lodged in Hart County Jail.
