Brownsville crash leaves 1 dead

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – A fatal crash leaves one woman dead in Edmonson County.

According to WNKY News 40 partner, the Edmonson Voice, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle injury accident on South Main Street at 7:27 pm on Friday.

ECSO says Kristopher McCombs, 45, of Segal, was driving south on Main Street when his vehicle, for unknown reasons, crossed the center line into the path of a vehicle driven by Sheila VanMeter, 67, of Brownsville. VanMeter was traveling north. The two vehicles collided head-on and came to a rest near Webb’s Eats & Treats restaurant.

VanMeter was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for treatment of life-threatening injuries. VanMeter was pronounced dead at the hospital.

ECSO says McCombs refused medical treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Brownsville Fire Department and Brownsville Police assisted ECSO at the scene.
