Browning FD Celebrates 50 Years of Service with Community Fish Fry

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WNKY) –  The Browning Volunteer Fire Department marked a major milestone on Saturday, celebrating 50 years of service to the Browning community with a public fish fry and annual meeting at the station on Browning Road.

Residents gathered from across Warren County to share a meal, hear from guest speakers, and reflect on the department’s decades of dedication. Chief Keith Lockhart, who’s seen the department evolve, said much has changed since it began.

“Fifty years of serving in the Browning community, technology has changed so much,” Lockhart said. “From having to call by phone to now just pushing a button that alerts us through radios, phones, pagers, it gets a faster response.”

Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman was among those in attendance and praised the department’s legacy.

“It’s really unbelievable if you think of the total number of people that have been involved with Browning for 50 years, serving their community,” Gorman said. “It’s such a special milestone.”

The department continues to draw in younger members, a trend Lockhart says is vital for the future.

“Hopefully they can carry on everything for another 50 years, keep everything going and protect the area and the community,” Lockhart said.

Gorman added that continued support and new volunteers will be key as the county grows. “We’ve got to continue to find great people like they have at Browning who understand service before self,” he said.

The event also served as the annual event where the Browning FD invites the community to attend, which typically occurs on the first Saturday in August.
