Bridge preservation and restoration project begins on I-165 in Butler County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A project to restore and preserve the I-165 bridges over the Green River in Butler County is underway.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 says the project will result in long-term lane closures to allow a contractor to build a temporary traffic crossover.

According to KYTC, motorists will drive on the opposite side when the crossovers are built. The speed limit will be lowered to 55 miles per hour.

KYTC says the project will overhaul the bridge, and new upgraded portions will be constructed, including a new bridge deck and walls. The bridges are projected to remain open during the project limits. Motorists should expect different traffic patterns.

Scott & Murphy Inc. was awarded $18.7 million for the project.

KYTC estimates the project completion to be in the fall of 2026.
