Briarwood Elementary students work on art project with Arts for All Kentucky
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local artist is partnering with students at Briarwood Elementary School to create a unique piece that will be displayed in the school.
Students learned about glass artist Dale Chihuly, who makes very colorful chandeliers.
They then created their own version of a chandelier using water bottles.
We spoke to Kim Soule with Arts for All Kentucky, who explains exactly how this piece of art is put together and where it will be displayed in the building.
“It’s assembled using… you can see chicken wire in there and hula hoops. We’ve made a large chandelier that will be an installation… and in this school, they’re going to hang it in the bell tower, which is going to have a presence, and right when you walk into the school, all the students will say, ‘Oh, I helped make that,'” she says.
This is a partnership with Briarwood’s art teacher Susan McCloud, who is excited to offer this amazing opportunity to her students.
“It just gives… it allows us to expand our horizons, and anytime you can have somebody that’s an ex… with expertise, such as Miss Soule, to come in and share that with our students. It just enlightened and brightens everybody’s day,” she says.
We stopped by while a group of kindergarteners were coloring in their bottles. The students are excited to take part in something they’ll be able to see every day.
