BRAWA receives grant to help shelter animals thrive

BARREN COUNTY, Ky.- Barren River Animal Welfare Association, an independent nonprofit animal shelter that relies solely on grants and donations, recently received a generous grant from the Kentucky Order.

This funding will go toward essential improvements at the shelter, including the installation of an industrial dishwasher and repairs to damaged kennel doors. These upgrades will create more space and a healthier environment for animals in need.

Robin Crane, vice president of BRAWA, emphasized the importance of speaking up for animals who have no voice or rights, especially in Kentucky.

With more community support, the shelter hopes to expand its services and reduce the number of animals turned away due to limited space.

“People get upset when we say we have no room, but we can’t wave a magic wand,” Crane said, highlighting the reality shelters face.

However, this grant is a step toward change, allowing more animals to find homes or be rescued. Shelters across the region, including Braswell, Allen County and Warren County, are feeling the positive effects of community involvement.

Crane said, “One small act of kindness can make a huge difference in an animal’s life—and in yours.”

Until July 5, BRAWA is also offering 50% off adoption fees, and donations of supplies are always welcome.
