BRASS receives funding to help offer shelter to those in need
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Unfortunately for too many, abusive relationships are a constant worry and danger. The Barren River Area Safe Space hopes to end that, and they will soon be given necessary funds to continue to help as many as they can.
News 40 spoke to BRASS Executive Director Tori Henninger, who said ARPA funding they thought would be unavailable was just awarded to them recently after applying once again following a national announcement. The money will be used to help continue to pay for their emergency shelter hotel room option. Henninger said that while hotels are not ideal, they are a viable option when dealing with the amount of individuals they serve needing shelter.
The director told us that since March of 2020, they’ve had between 40 to 50 people in shelter every night and as intensity of abuse goes up, having all the space they can is a great thing.
