BPL Plasma in Bowling Green in need of donations amid pandemic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Big news was announced in the fight against COVID-19, convalescent plasma.

Sunday, the Food and Drug Administration gave the green light on its emergency use authorization.

Convalescent plasma is the plasma donated by those who have recovered from COVID-19.

Experts then use that plasma to study its antibodies and work toward a cure or vaccine for the virus.

Already, more than 100,000 people have signed up for it and more than 70,000 people have gotten the treatment.

The local donation site representative, Samantha Roach says BPL Plasma center needs plasma now more than ever, whether COVID-19 related or not.

It’s important to note, there’s still a lot of data to collect on convalescent plasma treatment, including putting it through randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials.
